The Polar Kerr magnetometer features the most important factors of magnetic measurement: high field up to 2.5 Tesla, high sensitivity and impeccable stability of magnetic measurements. The Polar Kerr uses the Magneto-Optic Kerr Effect to satisfy the technical requirements of characterizing perpendicular media, providing post-deposition monitoring that is non-contact and non-destructive. The system is automated, easy to use, and suitable for high-throughput production facilities.

Magnetometry with the Polar Kerr is performed quickly, automatically generating a map of the magnetic properties of the entire disk. Early process feedback avoids adding expense to disks that may have poor yield. In the fabrication process, manufacturers use rapid metrology to adjust the process to improve overall yield. Its unique ability to measure with very fine resolution at both high fields and low fields makes it a powerful diagnostic tool.
The Polar Kerr System is available both as a low-cost manual-loading tool for use in development/limited-production environments, and also as a fully-automated tool for use in volume production. Proprietary measurement processing software automatically extracts key parameters from the raw data, eliminating manual interpretation of results by operators and test technicians. This feature provides an added degree of consistency to process results and relieves highly-skilled personnel from a time consuming repetitive chore.
