HCL Technologies Sets Up Dedicated Development Centre for KLA-Tencor in Chennai, India

HCL Technologies Ltd. (HCLT), one of India's leading IT services and solutions company, has set up a dedicated offshore center in Chennai, India for KLA-Tencor Corporation, the world's leading supplier of process control and yield management solutions for the semiconductor and related microelectronics industry. This high technology facility will provide software services for the complete Software Development Lifecycle for KLA-Tencor and will be a seamless extension of KLA-Tencor's own engineering facility in the USA. HCLT has been engaged in software development with KLA-Tencor for over a year now. The current projects encompass the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SLC) for KLA-Tencor and includes the development of new software components for the next generation wafer inspection systems. The span of software services being provided includes projects from 'concept stage' to the end of life cycle maintenance and support stage.

Our commitment to the relationship with HCLT is further bolstered by our investment in setting up the Clean Room and the 2135 Wafer Inspection machine, at their development center in Chennai, India."

Kris Bhaskar, Vice President (Software Engineering) KLA-Tencor, who was in Chennai to inaugurate the 2135, said, "Being the world leader in Yield Management, KLA-Tencor has installed hundreds of 2100 Series Wafer Inspection Systems. By providing this type of system here at HCLT's offshore center, we will increase our engineering bandwidth to provide much better software support to our customers world wide."

We have also made significant investments in the infrastructure such as a dedicated high-speed communication link, and extensively in training, processes and knowledge build up."

HCL Technologies' Core Technologies Division in Chennai thus has one of India's most sophisticated clean rooms -- used for housing KLA-Tencor's 2135 wafer inspection system, a high technology tool that is otherwise found only in semiconductor fabricating units. This system will detect all possible defects on single and multi layer integrated circuit wafers. The clean room has been set up on an isolated floor to meet the stringent vibration specifications, and will have carefully regulated humidity and temperature controls, to exceed the international specifications as prescribed by KLA-Tencor.

Both HCLT and KLA-Tencor have invested in the infrastructure facilities for the technology center including the data link connectivity between KLA-Tencor, USA with the Offshore Center in India. These will be helpful in integrating the software products and services from this center to KLA-Tencor USA and other operations.
